SPRING FLOWER SHOW SCHEDULE 2010

 

DIVISION A - DAFFODILS

(The word Daffodil and the word Narcissus mean the same thing. Daffodil is the English word and Narcissus is the Latin word for all the flowers in Division A)

Definition of Daffodils - Classes 1 to 6

Trumpet daffodils

Trumpet as long, or longer, than petals.

One flower per stem

Large cupped daffodils

Cup more than one third the length of the petals. One flower per stem.

 

Small cupped daffodils

Cup not more than one third the length of the petals. One flower per stem.

(The above measurements are taken from the point where the trumpet or cup joins the petals)

Class

  1. Trumpet daffodils: one vase, 3 blooms, one or more varieties

  2. Trumpet daffodils: one specimen bloom

  3. Large cupped daffodils: one vase, 3 blooms, one or more varieties

  4. Large cupped daffodils: one specimen bloom

  5. Small cupped daffodils: one vase, 3 blooms, one or more varieties

  6. Small cupped daffodils: one specimen bloom

  7. Two vases: 3 blooms in each from either classes 1, 3 or 5. Each vase must contain a different class. The blooms in each vase must be of one variety.

  8. Multi-headed daffodils: one vase, 3 stems, one or more varieties

  9. Multi-headed daffodils: one specimen stem

  10. Double daffodils: one vase, 3 blooms, one or more varieties

  11. Double daffodils: one specimen bloom

  12. Miniature daffodils: one vase, 3 stems, 1 bloom per stem, one or more varieties

  13. Split corona daffodils: one vase, 3 stems, one or more varieties

  14. Split corona daffodils: one specimen bloom

  15. Daffodils grown in a pot or bowl (max 9"), one or more varieties

  16. A front facing arrangement of daffodils in a pot, bowl or vase not to exceed 9" diameter

 

DIVISION B - TULIPS

Definition of Tulip Sizes 

Large blooms

Minimum bloom height 2.25"

Medium blooms

Maximum bloom height 2.25"

 

  1. Tulips: one vase, 3 large blooms, one or more varieties

  2. Tulips: one large specimen bloom

  3. Tulips: one vase, 3 medium blooms, one or more varieties

  4. Tulips: one medium specimen bloom

  5. Tulips: one vase, 3 miniature blooms, one or more varieties

  6. Tulips: 3 double blooms, one or more varieties

  7. Tulips grown in a pot or bowl (max 9"), one or more varieties

 

DIVISION C - SPRING FLOWERS

  1. Polyanthus: one vase, 3 stems, one or more varieties

  2. Polyanthus: one specimen stem

  3. Primrose: one vase, 5 blooms, one or more varieties

  4. Auricula: one vase, 3 stems, one or more varieties

  5. Pansies: 5 blooms displayed singly flat on a board with stems in water, one or more varieties

  6. Blossom: one vase, 3 stems, one variety

  7. Heather: one vase, 5 spikes, one variety

  8. Heather: one vase, 5 spikes, more than one variety

  9. Any spring flowers: one vase, 5 stems other than in Classes 1-30 above, one variety

 

DIVISION D – POT PLANTS

  1. Spring flowering plant, grown in a pot (max pot size 7") (not bulbs)

  2. Flowering pot plant excluding spring flowers (max pot size 7”)

  3. Foliage pot plant (max pot size 7")

  4. Auricula grown in a pot (max pot size 5")

  5. An alpine plant in flower grown in a pot (max pot size 8")

  6. An alpine plant for foliage effect grown in a pot (max pot size 8")

  7. Spring bulb or bulbs other than daffodils and tulips, grown in a max 9" pot or bowl (excluding amaryllis)

  8. Three pans alpine plants distinct varieties (max pan size 8")

  9. One pan cushion plant (max pan size 8")

  10. One pan Primulaceae (max pan size 8")

  11. One pan Saxifraga (max pan size 8")

  12. One dwarf shrub in flower, excluding conifers (max pot size 12")

  13. One dwarf conifer (max pot size 12")

  14. One amaryllis grown in a pot (any pot size)

 

DIVISION E - FLORAL ART

  1. “Blue Skies and Sunshine” - an exhibit to feature blue and yellow flowers. Foliage permitted. To be staged in a niche. Space allowed : Width 24”, Depth 24”, Height 31”

  2. A table arrangement to be viewed in the round suitable for a spring-time informal lunch party, using fresh flowers and foliage. To measure no more than 15” overall

  3. Petite arrangement in an egg cup. Not exceeding 10” overall

NOTE:

Accessories permitted in any of the above classes.

No artificial plant material, eg polyester/silk flowers, may be used in any of classes 47 to 49. Exhibits should fill approximately two-thirds of the space allowed.

 

DIVISION F: CHILDREN'S SECTION: 15 Years and under

Age to be shown on exhibits

  1. Three stems of Daffodils from your own garden displayed in a tumbler of water

  2. A small plate of biscuits you have made yourself. Any variety. You may decorate them if you wish

  3. A Loch Ness Monster made from fruit and / or Vegetables

  4. “ The Easter Bunny” - a drawing or painting you have made yourself

 

DIVISION G - ARTS AND CRAFTS

All items exhibited in this division must be the exhibitor's own work

  1. An item of stitchcraft or embroidery

  2. An item of knitting or crochet

  3. A soft toy

  4. An item of sewing

  5. An item of woodwork

  6. A painting or drawing

  7. An item of any other type of craft not mentioned above

 

DIVISION H – PHOTOGRAPHY

One entry per person per class.  Max size: A4

  1. A photograph of my garden

  2. A country scene

  3. Any other photograph with a horticultural connection

  4. Any other favourite photograph
